3D to 2D

For my 3D to 2D project I decided to recreate a vintage style circus flyer.  I used an early sketch idea from my Masked Identity project as the base for the flyer.  I tool ideas from a few different circus flyer templates for the background piece.  I was inspired by American Horror Story: Freak Show.  This piece was my first attempt at 2D artwork, but all in all I am pleased.  My color scheme was aimed at making the piece look cohesive and mysterious. Leaving the bottom half of my illustration unshown also leads to the mystery. What is at the bottom? Human legs? Elephant hooves? Anything at all???

The idea of constant mystery was a very important part of this project because I didn't want anything to be too obvious.  There are no dates or locations on the flyer, only the name and one attraction.  That inspiration came from "The Night Circus", a novel about a mysterious appearing circus.  With more practice I'm sure pieces like this will turn into more stimulating pieces, I stand by the mystery behind the piece.
