Multiple Panel

My multiple panel piece was inspired by the human body.  Each panel depicts a female figure in the simplest line form. The sizes and shapes of each figure differ in order to shed light on the variety of body sizes we see in the world.  Each color strip over the figures represents a different struggle I or someone I know has suffered from.  From left to right the struggles are: Dating Violence, Breast Cancer, Sexual Assault, Eating Disorder, and Depression.  I chose to use these colors over the figures to show that although people deal with these issues, they are not masks to who a person is.  The ability to see through the color to the figure emphasizes the idea that a person cannot hide behind their struggle, but also that their struggle cannot hide who they truly are.  The decision to use brown paper was to keep a natural feel the the body images.  Also, the decision to not have any faces on the panels came from the idea that I wanted anyone to be able to relate to these bodies.  With faces, there would have been a set idea of what these people are supposed to look like, which I wanted to eliminate.
